10 Pointers for a Successful Business Trip to India
Exploring the beauty of India and discovering the tools for Business success
You find yourself packing for a trip to India, which is exciting for too many reasons to list, but you know nothing about India and have no idea where to begin. We have compiled a list for just such a scenario! Here are some travel tips to help make your trip to India easier and less stressful:
- Pack a small suitcase with only the necessities, including a couple of nice shirts and two business suits. You can request laundry or dry cleaning services from your hotel. You'll have less luggage to worry about losing or transporting through airports. You will also save time by not having to wait for delayed luggage.
- Get vaccinated and inquire about antimalarials. Before traveling to India, consult your doctor and request the necessary vaccines. Getting immunized can protect you from contagious diseases. Mosquitoes are common in India due to its tropical climate, so make sure your doctor prescribes an antimalarial for you. When you're outside, use a mosquito repellent cream to keep mosquitos at bay.
- Arrive a day early. The 12-hour time difference between the United States and India, combined with the long flight, can cause disorientation. If you arrive a day before your business meeting, you will have time to recover from jet lag and also visit the city's famous tourist attractions.
- Pre-arrange for a taxi to meet you at the airport. Avoid hiring an unknown taxi from the airport because there are numerous unlicensed drivers who may charge exorbitant prices, refuse to use the meter, or even take you on a long route to charge you more. You can rent a car from the hotel where you are staying and have the driver meet you at the airport. To get around the city, take private taxis or cars from your hotel or a trustworthy travel agency.
- Carry your passport. Always leave your hotel room with your passport, a credit card, and some cash in your wallet.
- Drink only mineral water. Even if you are staying in a business hotel, the purity of the water cannot be guaranteed. Drink only mineral water to keep diseases at bay. Make sure the cap is always closed. Stay hydrated: India is a hot country, and if you don't drink enough water throughout the day, you may become dehydrated. Make sure to only consume bottled mineral water and canned soft drinks.
- Make the most of the services provided by your hotel. Don't be afraid to use your hotel's facilities, whether it's for laundry, booking tickets, making travel arrangements, or asking for restaurant recommendations. Although this may be costly in some cases, you can rest assured that you are not being taken advantage of.
- Formally address your business associates. In India, address your business associates as "Ms." or "Mr." followed by their last name. If you are unable to pronounce a name correctly the first time, ask again and do your best to imitate. Please use your associates' first names if they request it.
- Relax and enjoy your trip. Take time to relax after a long day of meetings by enjoying the hospitality of your hosts and visiting tourist attractions. Make your business trip to India unforgettable.
